Friday
Friday night was pretty low key. Benny cooked up some cauliflower risotto bowls (shoutout to Target’s frozen food aisle) with steak on top for him, salmon for me. I wouldn’t be mad if these became a weeknight dinner staple for us. It made me remember how much I LOVE salmon as a protein option.
After dinner we tuned in to some March Madness basketball games from the comfort of our couch. Did you create a bracket? Ben and I have our own set going at home (winner gets a massage!). My odds are looking pretty good right now if I do say so myself.
Saturday
Confession: I pulled a total Kahla move and overloaded my Saturday. I have a bad habit of wanting to do ALL THE THINGS. I don’t think that’s a secret around here. At times I can pull it off, other times it catches up to me in a not so great (and very stressful) way.
Saturday morning Ben and I woke up early. Not going out on a Friday night will do that for you. We had coffee and watched CMT music videos together while Nashy chewed away on his favorite avocado plush toy. After we finished up our coffees I got my elliptical workout in. Ben made avocado toast for breakfast and it was truly cafe-style tasty. I topped my avo toast off with Trader Joe’s chili lime seasoning, sriracha, and a blend of asiago parmesan cheese (a fortunate leftover goodie from having chicken Caesar salads for dinner last week).
I hopped in the shower to get ready for my 9:30AM nail appointment quickly realizing there was no way I was going to make it to the salon in time. I was also worried they were going to take two hours to do my nails like they normally do which would make Ben and I late for our lunch reservation that afternoon. I called the salon and moved the appointment. What followed next was a breakdown and a long talk with Ben about how I need to get my scheduling under control. Sometimes I have to accept that you can’t fit everything in, no matter how badly I want to. Weekend Wins posts usually focus on the “wins” from the weekend aka the GOOD stuff. I think including this here is vital though. I have to look at the realization to stop overloading my crazy schedule as a positive.
The good news is that since I moved my nail appointment, it allowed me more time to get ready for lunch. I was invited out to bartaco to try their latest secret taco offering and it did NOT disappoint. Neither did the three margaritas they served up. Blog post to come this week, but the short version is you’re going to want to get in on the new #bartacosecret ASAP. Avocado lovers rejoice, because spoiler alert: it’s their crispy avocado taco!

Ben and I finished up lunch and headed home to go for a walk around our neighborhood with Nash. We did a quick photoshoot with him in our living room post-walk in celebration of National Puppy Day on Saturday. I featured a La Croix plush toy that I picked up for him a while back. Nash was so excited (obviously we all LOVE La Croix in this house).

Later in the day we went to a friend’s house for a…wait for it…….CRAWFISH BOIL. Like, WHAT is life haha. I had never once been to one, but strangely enough it was something I’d always wanted to do. There’s something so truly southern about the whole thing. Our friends had cooked up two varieties of crawfish by the time Ben and I arrived – some spicy, some not. Ya girl loves her spice, so I opted for a tray of the spicy crawfish. I’ll admit I had some hesitancy to the whole experience. Had I always wanted to attend a crawfish boil? Sure. But in that fantasy I wasn’t sure if I was actually eating them or just ‘gramming the experience. After being shown the appropriate way to indulge in a crawfish (a squeeze of the head and a quick twist & pull of the tail for those wondering) – I found myself hooked on those mud bugs – a term I’m still warming up to even as I type this.
Too many drinking games and a trip to a local bar named Goose’s led us into Saturday night. We spent a few hours out with our friends before curling up on our couch at home to watch Criminal Minds.
Sunday
My rescheduled nail appointment happened on Sunday and all was right in the world. Little matches the feeling of a fresh manicure. The rest of Sunday was spent working on this post, napping, and cuddling up with Nash.
I washed my hair to make sure it was freshened up for the week ahead (especially since it was smoke-filled from our trip to Goose’s the night before – gross).
When I asked Ben if anything else happened on Sunday, he reminded me of all the yard work he did. HUBS WINS. With our recent vacation and busy schedules, our lawn has been slightly neglected. Ben carved out some time to edge, weed whack, and made way for some of the new landscaping we want to put in our backyard. It looks a heckuva lot better already. We’re excited to put some of our own touches on the outside of the house since most of the landscaping is leftover from the previous owners.
How was your weekend?
Girl, I feel you! I'm learning about the importance of not overloading myself, too!
It’s like the challenge of all challenges. And I never remember how important it is until it’s too late 🤦🏻♀️. We’ll get there!
