My membership to the short hair club started back in June. I was looking for a change and by golly I found it. It took some bravery (and my hair stylist asking me if I was absolutely sure) to chop off my long locks into a shorter, bolder cut. As soon as my long pony tail got the snip, I swear I heard my hair breathe a sigh of relief. It was overdue. That hair had heat damage, it was bleached, and dried out. It was nice to start things over on a fresh, short, dark slate.
Since the big chop of 2019, I’ve had to learn how to actually style my hair. This short mane requires more effort than my long hair ever did. Who knew? I use various products and sprays to attain the looks that I want. Believe me when I say that some hair days are easier than others.

These are the hair care products that I’ve been loving lately for my shorter locks. Recognize any? Some of these help me go longer between hair washes, while others help to amp up the texture and tame down the frizz.
Kristen Ess Texture Spray: This has been a holy grail item for me even during my long hair days. It gives me the texture I’m looking for and smells SO GOOD. Actually, all of her products do. If Kristen Ess made candle, I would totally buy it.
John Frieda Frizz Ease Nourishing Oil Elixir: It might seem counterproductive to add oil to you hair, but believe me it’s not. I love this stuff. This gold liquid helps me battle frizz. Although my hair isn’t SUPER frizzy to begin with, this oil a perfect light touch product to conquer the frizz I do have. Let’s not forget I do live in Florida, known for its sunshine and humid frizz-causing days.
Batiste’s Dry Shampoo and Dry Bar’s Detox Dry Shampoo (both in the tinted/darker versions): I love these dry shampoos a LOT. They help me go a few days between hair washing. Anything to extend the time between washes is a win in my book.
TRUHAIR Raise the Roots 2.0: THE ROOTS THE ROOTS THE ROOTS ARE ON FIYAAAA. No, just kidding. That would be bad. Raise the Roots gives my short hair some body which I’m totally here for. I swear it makes my hair shinier too.
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day 5-in-1 Styling Treatment: I switch between this product and Raise the Roots whenever I blow-dry my hair. This styling treatment covers a lot of bases. I love it most for the smoothness and fullness that it gives my hair.
Bumble and bumble Bb.Don’t Blow It Fine (H)air Styler: Full disclosure, this product is for my lazy hair days. Basically when all I want to do is: wash my hair, skip the heat application, and let my locks air dry. I throw some dabs of this cream in post-wash and call it a day. It never makes my hair feel “product heavy” which I love.
TRUHAIR Micro-Stimulating Scalp Massager: As an avid hair product user, I’m way more prone to buildup on my scalp. This little scalp massager has been a game changer on my hair wash days. It feels like a mini head massage in the shower. I use it to scrub in my shampoo and break through the old product buildup. Want to try this scalp massager out for yourself? These are the hair care products that have been working wonders for my short hair and I. Have you tried any of these products? What hair care products are your holy grail items?
LOVE Kristen Ess products! Need to try that spray!
Each one of her products I’ve tried has been amazing and they all smell good 😍. She has a conditioning mask that I loveeeee.
The Kristin Ess products are incredible! I use the texture spray on a regular basis, too. I love the way her products smell! Some people aren’t a huge fan, but I find myself reaching for the texture spray just to revive my hair and smell great in a flash.
