Better Byrd just spread its wings and opened its vibrant doors in St Petersburg last Friday. The restaurant takes its spot as Ciccio Restaurant Group’s latest concept bringing along their vision of a better chicken sandwich and oh yes, mini gourmet donuts.
Yes. You heard me. MINI GOURMET DONUTS.
Last week I was invited to Better Byrd’s Better Blogger event by Samantha Rose (writer of Samantha Rose Says). It was held Thursday night, right before they planned to open their doors to the public on Friday. Tampa Bay area bloggers had the chance to preview the Better Byrd menu while capturing the full experience through our Instagrams using hashtag: #BetterBloggerSP. Warning: clicking link may cause extreme hunger. Solution: go to Better Byrd.
Our tasting menu ranged from chicken sandwiches, to Sriracha queso covered fries, and even roasted Brussels sprouts (don’t worry, bacon was involved). From the wide range of creative food I snapped and tasted that evening, a few menu items stood out to me above the rest:
Sweet Potato Tots & Maple Cream Dipping Sauce: I could have eaten these tots all night. And the next day. And the next day. For anyone that loves sweet potato fries, BB’s sweet potato tots are a complete game changer. They’re a perfect pop in your mouth snack. Don’t forget to double dip them in the creamy maple dipping sauce.
The CheesyChick: If you need a side chick in your life, choose this one. It’s one of Better Byrd’s chicken sandwiches topped with goat cheese, and pepper jelly. SO DELISH. Take a bite and tell your tastebuds they’re welcome, because they won’t be able to resist this tangy, spicy, chicken sandwich.
MINI DONUTS. ALL OF THEM: Obviously I wasn’t leaving Better Byrd until I had the chance to try one or two of their mini donuts. Vanilla Pebbles and Lemon Papi Thyme were the two front runners for the event. Both donuts were the perfect sweet note to end the evening on. I’ve already got my eye on the Cracker Jacks one for my next visit.
Better Byrd is the word, y’all. Did I mention that they also serve brunch all day long? The next time you’re in the mood for something different, give Better Byrd in St. Pete a try. It’s a mothercluckin’ flight above your typical chicken sandwich.
